The Hangover’s unnecessary hangover

Remember how guiltily enjoyable ‘The Hangover’ was back in summer 2009? Even if it wasn’t all that original and its gleam is lost upon subsequent viewings, it proved that even the most basic crumb of an idea and a great cast of (at the time) relative unknowns can generate big laughs, and it of course made a ton of money. Now, two years later we have its inevitable sequel; same director, same stars, same situation. Only this time the location is Bangkok, and another character is getting married.

Forgive me, but doesn’t this latest trailer for ‘The Hangover Part 2’ represent an exact carbon copy of the original? It pains me to say it, but this sequel is part of the lexicon of unnecessary Hollywood sequels, bringing back the old team for the soul purposes of making money. And why is it titled  ‘Part 2’ anyway? The original was clearly never intended to be the first installment of an overarching story, just a one off, like it should of stayed.

The Hangover Part 2 hits the UK May 27th 2011. I’ll be waiting in line, scowling.
